BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

On Sunday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Memorial Fellowship Hall, members of the congregation brought their pets to be blessed.  It was a time to be reminded of the gift they are and the responsibility we have for their care. A prayer of thanksgiving and charge was offered for each family’s pet. In the Reformed/Presbyterian tradition, we believe in the “priesthood of all believers” which means that ministers have no special power to confer “blessing” upon another; but, rather, each of us is blessed and called to be a blessing to others. Therefore, the term, “bless” your pets was used in the sense of acknowledgement for us all that we have been given wonderful gifts from God in our pets and in all the elements of the good earth and we should remember, cherish, tend, and share these with others.

The Congregational Retreat on March 26 and 27th was a big hit.  It was a fun time to meet members of the church in a relaxed setting.  The setting was a recreation of Montreat.  And we were treated to smoores and sardines!  Check out the photos and videos.

Emily Childers, Amanda Sloan, Kelly Boone Sloan, Louanne Smith, Morgan Terry, and Tiffani Terry joined a wonderful group of youth from Morton Presbyterian Church, along with their Pastor, Bob Hill, at Thornwell Home for Children. This group spent the week hosting Vacation Bible School "Power Lab" and teaching about the power of Christ’s love. In addition, the group learned about the power of Christ’s love through the amazing children at Thornwell. Their little hearts are filled with enthusiasm, love and faith. One of the best moments was when the children said "they didn’t want us to go!"

Thank you FPC for supporting such an amazing and much needed ministry!

Grace and Peace,

Kelly Boone Sloan
